Transparent methodology

How the TrueMarket Autos Valuation Engine works

Our methodology is designed to make vehicle pricing evidence understandable, transparent, and useful—not to hide a market estimate behind a black box.

Start a vehicle search

1. Identify the vehicle

A VIN or license plate is used to identify available vehicle details such as year, make, model, trim, and equipment. Accurate identification improves the relevance of the comparable market sample.

2. Analyze comparable vehicles

The valuation engine reviews available comparable-market records and organizes them into a current market average, lower and upper benchmarks, distribution, and sample size.

3. Apply vehicle adjustments

Mileage is compared with the average mileage of the available comparable sample. The report shows the resulting adjustment separately so users can see how it affects the final estimate.

Condition, history, options, local demand, inspection findings, and transaction-specific factors may change the price a real buyer or dealer is willing to pay.

4. Explain market confidence

Confidence reflects the strength and consistency of the available market evidence. A larger, more consistent comparable sample generally supports a stronger conclusion than a small or highly varied sample.

5. Translate evidence into strategy

Buyer reports convert the evidence into offer guidance. Seller reports compare private-party value with an estimated dealer trade-in value. Research reports focus on market range and stability.

Frequently asked questions

Vehicle value questions, answered

Is a TrueMarket Autos report a certified appraisal?

No. Reports are independent market research for informational purposes and are not certified appraisals, purchase offers, or guarantees of a transaction price.

Why can the final sale price differ from the report?

Actual pricing can change because of physical condition, service history, title status, local demand, negotiation, financing, taxes, dealer costs, and other facts not fully represented in market data.
